The person responsible for making funeral arrangements is typically the individual who applies for assistance.
Important Information Before Making Arrangements
Families should be aware that approval must generally be obtained before funeral contracts are signed or services are paid for.

Toronto Employment and Social Services requires authorization before arrangements are finalized.

Before proceeding, families should:

If the Deceased Was Receiving Ontario Works or ODSP
If your loved one was receiving Ontario Works or ODSP benefits at the time of death:

  • We will work with Toronto Employment and Social Services to obtain authorization.
