The Region of Peel may provide financial assistance for approved basic funeral services for deceased residents of Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon who meet eligibility requirements.

What Funeral Expenses May Be Covered?
Depending on eligibility and approval, assistance may help cover:
  • Transfer of the deceased into professional care
  • Secure shelter and care of the deceased
  • Funeral arrangement services
  • Death registration documentation
  • Cremation services.
  • Burial services
  • Burial container or cremation container
  • Standard urn for cremated remains
  • Opening and closing of a grave where applicable
  • Transportation to a cemetery or crematorium
  • Basic preparation of the deceased
  • Pacemaker removal when required
Coverage varies based on the circumstances of each family and the applicable municipal assistance program.
Who May Qualify in Mississauga?
Families may qualify if:
  • The deceased lived in Mississauga, Brampton, or Caledon.
  • The deceased received Ontario Works or ODSP benefits.

Peel Region requires families to apply for assistance before funeral arrangements are finalized and before any funeral contract is signed or paid for.
If the Deceased Was Receiving Ontario Works or ODSP
If your loved one was receiving Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Program benefits at the time of death:
  • Contact Affordable Funeral Services immediately.
  • We help coordinate with Peel Region Social Services.
  • Financial eligibility is reviewed.
  • Funeral arrangements proceed following approval.
If the Deceased Was Not Receiving Ontario Works or ODSP
  • Contact our office immediately.
  • Gather financial information regarding the deceased.
  • Apply through Peel Region Social Services.
  • Submit requested documentation.
  • Await eligibility determination before finalizing arrangements.
Canada Pension Plan (CPP) Death Benefit

The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) may provide a one-time death benefit to the estate of an eligible contributor.

The benefit can be used toward funeral expenses and may provide up to $2,500, subject to CPP eligibility requirements.
